  • Ground Wire Under Pickups??

Hiya guys!! Ok, here's one that has me stumped. I am putting back together a Model 3A and under the pickups looks to be a ground wire? screwed into the wood. The is all I can think it is since the previous owner cut the wires and gutted it. So my question is.. why is this wire screwed down to the wood? Surely not a "ground" since wood is a really bad ground. Any thoughts? Or am I missing the obvious here.......

Well if youll notice, the pickup rout is painted black... this is a conductive paint. The ground wire is screwed into it to ground the pickup cavity to reduce noise and outside interference. Its a good thing to have there!
