  • Ground problem!?

Alright guys, I recently moved my rig in the attic.

My rig consists of a laptop, Line 6 Guitar port, and Native instruments guitar rig.

I run it into a old school 150 watt stereo. 2 Pioneer home full range speakers.

I've been running higher gain settings lately, and in utter frustration, I get pissy and quit playing.

There is a AWFULL hum, I use humbuckers (emg's) so I know its not from the guitar.

However when I touch the guitar, the hum is gone. I've tried this on passive and active pickups, on various guitars.

    Guess what...

The hum goes away when I unplug the power adaper from the laptop, from the power outlet. I moved the adapter to a different electrical circut, still noise.

I noticed when I touch the prongs on the plug end of the laptop, it makes some poppy noises.

Recently the ground prong on the laptop power adapter broke off.
Ever since then, my dc- ac inverter for cars and planes doesn't work with the adapter anymore either.

Do you guys think I need a new adapter, or what?

    Thanks,
    Steve

put a new grounded plug on the cord costs about 80 cents and takes about 5 minutes.

I went to home depot, and spent about $8 on a good replacement plug.

Wired it up, and it drastically cut back on the noise.

I haven't gotten to try it in the inverter yet, but I bet it'll work now.
