• Charvel model 3a help

Hello I have a model 3a that I just bought. It needs a neck plate, a jack and a bridge, so I am unfamiliar with the controls. It has 2 humbucker but it has a 5 way switch and the volume has a push\pull switch. I know the humbuckers are coil taps. Do anyone know what each switch position is? And what the push\pull switch does?

Also does anyone know where I can get some parts for it?

It's pretty basic.

Although you should have a 3 way, not 5 way switch.

positions are neck/neckbridge/bridge

As for push/pull pots, you answered your own question. = coil taps

Actually it is a 5-way switch. But I just realized the knob is white so someone probably put that in themselves. I better look at the wiring, it must be customized. I guess it's a pretty versatilve guitar with hum\single in both positions.

The model 3A did come with a 5-way pickup selector. But it had standard volume and control pots. Your push/pull pots are after market...

The pickup selector (don't quote me on this, I'm hypothesizing) would be
1 - bridge
2 - tapped bridge (inward coil)
3 - tapped bridge (inward coil) / tapped neck (outward coil)
4 - neck
5 - tapped neck (outward coil)

I could be completely wrong though. The same switch on the model 3DR / Predator has the following configuration..
1 - Neck
2 - Neck/Bridge(Parallel)
3 - Both Full(Series)
4 - Both Full(Parallel)
5 - Bridge(Series)

Re: Charvel model 3a help

I also heard it was

1. neck
2. outer coils (neck + bridge)
3. neck + bridge
4. inner coils (neck + bridge)
5. bridge

2 & 4 might be the other way around

One of these days I'm going to find out what poles are active in what position and trace the wiring to find out for sure. But I do know that all the positions sound pretty close to the same.

Oh and your push pull pot was not factory.
