That trick only works on pickups that use 2 different coils, like some DiMarzios. The Jacksons are "even". But what does "more metal" mean? Brighter? Darker? More output?

Boosting the guitar's volume with a distortion or overdrive pedal would metalize the tone plenty. Or adding a gain booster to the guitar. Or ditching the pickup for a hotter one.

I think I got a pretty good "80's metal" tone with the J80C alone (think early to mid-80's Judas Priest) - but if you want more gain without going to high-end amplifiers, something needs to be done.

The J80C is a real nice pickup. Best one of the Jackson branded-ones, IMHO.

No. They're regular high impedance pickups. Fairly high output, ceramic magnet.

IMO the J80C sounds pretty damn good in my 1989 Dinky with the JE1200 mid range boost. I have tried the pickup without the Jackson electronics and it was rather wimpy sounding.
