  • DKMGT neck on DK2 body ?

    Hi,

I have a recent DK2 that I like the guitar, but just cannot get comfortable with the neck on it.

I also have a DKMGT with a great neck that I dont' really play that much.

Would it work to put the DKMGT neck on the DK2, and block the floyd ?

Or just simpler to sell the DK2, redo the pickups in the DKMGT, and not worry about it ?

    Thanks

Yes, it should work just fine. They're both 24-fret, 25.5" scale necks.

SHOULD being the key word here. Might also depend on the year it was built, etc.

I purchased them both new in 2005 locally, and they hadnt been sitting in the shops for a long time, so they're probably pretty close in years.

I'll probably go ahead and give it a try. If it doesn't work, or I don't like it, I can just put them back together again.

        Thanks

It worked. Strung up fine, and all I need to do is block the floyd. Once I got the necks off, I found the DK2 was made in Aug 2003, and the DKMGT was made in early 2004.

          Here's a quick pic.

It's a shame to have that bridge blocked. Why don't you take it to the next level and route the neck for a Floyd nut? That's what I'd do. Otherwise it makes a great looking axe kinda goofy.

Having a blocked floyd doesnt affect the looks. I think it looks great mate, good work!

                Thanks guys.

I hadn't even thought of getting the neck routed for a floyd nut. Not something I'm capable of. I'm just going to block the bridge for now, so I can break it in, and decide if I want to swap pickups.

Very cool!! Just block the bridge and use it for divebombing only, and put a set of locking tuners on it to help keep it in tune. If you don't go crazy with the bar, you really don't need a locking nut.

What size are the holes on these necks ? 10mm ?

any recommendation on a drop-in set of locking tuners in chrome ?
