Is 17008 a valid San Dimas serial number? I thought they were only 4 digits.

I think the 5 digit number came before the 4. I have seen a few recently..

Now tell us more about this one...

I found a post on alt.guitar (I think that was it) for a guy thinking of selling #17008 and he wasn't sure what it was worth. He doesn't have a photo. I think he said it had a brown finish with one hum.

yep that would be the first year of serial#s a 5 digit # is real
i think those first year serial#s were NOT logged & non sequential.

Hi, I got #17008 for an xmas gift in 1980. The people who bought it for me said it was a custom order, because of the gold hardware and Dimarzio X2N. I'm trying to track down the original reciept to find the date of purchase. I haven't played this guitar in years, it needs new frets and has some of the finish chipped off here and there. This was my main guitar for over 10 years and has seen a lot of use, still it is just as solid as the day I got it. I wasn't planning on selling it, I was just interested in its value, although if someone wants to trade an Otari MTR90 in good condition mabye we can talk : ) I'm probably gonna get it refretted and start using it again, I forgot how great these guitars are.
Thanks for all the interest,
Dave.

Sorry, I thought you were looking to sell it if the price was right.

No problem, I might sell it eventually.
