Thin metal (search Ebay for "shim stock" - maybe .008 or less thickness) and a very sharp pair of tin snips and sand the edges.

Unless you know someone with a metal-stamping press that can cut the material so it's smooth on all sides.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Autopart, Hardware, Kmart, stores sells "feeler gauges". Get the long ones and cut away.
        Should work fine.
