  • Trouble with my nut!

I know, who could resist a subject line like that?

Anyway, here's my problem. I was replacing the strings one my Model 4 and took them all off so I could get some lemon oil on my fretboard and work off a bit of gunk. When I removed the strings, the nut came sliding right out.

Shouldn't it be attached to the neck more firmly? Is string tension supposed to be all that holds it on?

A stock nut is typicaly glued in place, but I've seen a lot that were merely pressure fit.
Wood shrinkage will loosen a pressure fit nut over time as it dries out.

yeah, but just a teeny dab because you may need to remove it later if it becomes worn. honestly, you can get by with elmer's, but if all you have is superglue, just one drop will do.

Thanks, Sully & Co. Any suggestions for getting it set spot-on? Is it okay just as long as it's flush with the sides of the neck?
