What is this plek-ing of which you speak? Something to do with the frets?

Lot's of bro's at the LP forum have this done and swear by it. Once a plek is local to Cinci I will give it a shot on one of my Lesters.

Cost-wise, I've been getting quotes between $129-$200. Seems to usually require some nut and saddle work as well.

Re: Anyone have their JC Plek\'d?

it takes a reading under tension and off tension then creates a level fretjob that is supposed to be better then by hand.. It is definetly a nice fretjob

Re: Anyone have their JC Plek\'d?

The 1/2 dozen or so San Dimas guitars that I played were factory plek'd and had PERFECT frets. I think having a guitar plek'd is more expensive than a luthier doing a grind and polish, but it's many times more accurate. Last time I checked though, there were only a few of the machines in the USA - one in nashville and I think one in california.

Hey Pete...I clicked the link in the first post, and it says it's now available in Norman, OK at the Norman Music Center. Might be worth checking out.

Cool, that's right down the road for me. I'll have to check it out.

Wow, that's cool! It's been a few years since I read up on it - I was at Lloyd's house checking out the San Dimas guitars when I first heard about the process from him.

Hmmm, how does it handle guitars with binding over fret ends?

                            Hylian,

It must not be a problem - as someone else mentioned, a lot of guys in the Les Paul Forum have had theirs done, and I haven't seen anyone complain about the "nibs" at the fret ends.
