• Replacing Braided Lead Wire on Pickups

Hello. Has anyone ever replaced the lead wire on a pickup?

I have a Duncan 59 with the braided lead and it is too short to work with. Is it even possible to replace them completely or will I just have to extend it somehow?

    Thanks, Dave

Your best bet is to extend it. It's very simple actually. All you have to do is seperate the braid and twist it into a short lead and then strip a bit off the inner wire WITHOUT stripping back to where the inner wire will touch the braid. Splay them out into a Y shape then solder as much length as you need onto the two leads. Remember that however much you solder on will be unshielded, so don't have excessive length, but have enough get the job done.
