• Seymour Duncan p/u recommendations?

I have a DK2 with stock Duncan Designed pups. I would like to swap out the bridge pickup for something better, but I don't want an active pickup. Any thoughts, recommendations? I play mostly rock, some metal, some blues/jazz so I need a pup that will handle a wide variety.

Thanks for any input.

Are you referring to an SH-5?

Yes, SH-5 is the Custom. I've got the 7-string version in my Schecter and love it!

Can you get it in either white or black? I want to stay with black. I just tried the sound samples on Seymour Duncan's site and it sounds really good! I also love the SH6 right below it.

I just noticed on Musician's Friend that you can order a red one! Any have any photos of what that looks like?

Yeah, you can get them in black or white, but the Custom Shop will make you just about any color, I think.
Not sure if MF has them in stock or if they would just order one direct from Duncan. I've also heard Duncan sometimes takes awhile to make colored pups compared to the relatively short time of DiMarzio.

The custom is great, but i still prefer the jb, it "sings" more when playing leads imo, but the custom has a tighter bass, which is nice.

I like the JB's as well as the Custom. They are both good suggestions.

I think JBs are overrated! I had one in my old Hamer Special FM... it had too much treble and high mids, and I usually like high mids, but this pickup was totally lacking any low end balls, IMO.

Well, I decided on the Duncan Distortion. My local GC had some in stock so I got one out the door for $59, compared to the sticker price of $69 so I'm happy. I'll let you know when I actually get it put in...still looking for a new neck though

I have a custom in the bridge of my Epi LP and a Distortion in the neck. The Custom is a fantastic sounding pickup, not as shrill as the JB can be sometimes. I have never had a distortion in the bridge position, but it has been a popular pup for many years. Good luck!

Duncan Distortion is a great all around rock pickup.Custom, custom custom and custom 5 are all very good.
JB(n)/Distortion(b) combo rocks.
Really? well screw Mark Twain.
