  • Guitar cleaning/polishing - How to remove film?

I'm having a problem when I try to clean most of my guitars, I use the Gibson guitar polish and cloth, when wiping the polish off, I still get that hazy film, you know the one when you wipe it, it kind of moves somewhere else, it's clear, but you can still see it. I tried using a lot of polish, very little polish, no polish at all and just the cloth, I still get it everytime.

take a trip to pep boys or any automotive store and grab yourself some terry towels, or the diaper towels (don't worry, they're unused). then grab a bottle of mother's pre-wax cleaner. it works like a wax does; apply, let dry, buff out.

pete recommended that to me years ago, and i'm still on the same bottle. it's good stuff.

Sully, would this be safe on Gibson nitro finishes as well?

i use windex to clean and turtlewax to polish.

but i would follow sully's advice for gibson finishes.

While you're at the auto store pick up some "microfiber" towels. These towels should be used as a final polish. They will leave no streaks and will not scratch.

Alternatively you can use rubbing compund/swirl remover instead of waxy polishes.
