  • Changing Pick-Ups on a Model 6

How would I go about changing pick-ups on a Model 6,could I change out the pick-ups with some duncans and still use the mid boost and active circuit or do I have to bypass the stock electronics.I would also like to use the 3 switches to keep it looking stock.I know how much people gripe about those switches but I will use them. Yes, you can use Duncans with the active mid boost. The stock pickups are like any other passive pickups. So you should pretty much just be able to unsolder the old pickup and solder the new one in its place. I had my 650xl wired with Duncans to the mid boost for many years and only recently yanked out the circuit.

Hey Travis can I ask why you yanked out the circuit,I'm just curious.

I was looking to split the Cool Rails and Hot Rails with some push/pull pots. I was basically going to set it up with individual volume knobs for each pickup and no tone/mid boost. I just wanted to get a little more of a pure tone from the pickups. I thought it would be easier to yank everything and start fresh. And in all honesty, most of the time I had the boost knob turned all the way off anyway.

What kind of pick-ups do you have in your 750 XL's.,As i also have one,its the one in my avatar, although its shrunk up so much you can't see it to well,It was a string through at one time but it now has a Kahler Floyd copy,I wish they left it original.

I've got one 750xl with a pair of Duncan Distortions wired with individual volume knobs for each pickup and a three way switch. That thing is an absolute shred machine. My other 750xl has a Distortion/Jazz combo wired with a 5 way: neck full, neck split, neck split + bridge split, neck full + bridge full, and bridge full. Very versatile guitar, that one is.

instread of switching out the pups. try popping off the plastic covers and using alcohol or GooGone/Goof off to get the glue off.

                it will sound way better!!!

the J-50c is a Kick ass pup! just needs to be openned up.

the j-50c is bigger sounding than the j-90c that was in your model 2. IMO
