change strings?

The little pamphlet that came with my guitar says something like after every 20-24 playing hours, you should change strings. That seems a little steep, and not really necessary unless you gig a lot. Though the top strings get gunky pretty quick, making them tougher to slide on. So how often does everyone change strings?

It depends, 2 weeks or 1 month.
I have to change the high e every week, because it starts to sounds like an awful mosquito voice, I think it is because of the hands sweat and it kinda fucks up the string.

I change mine when they get crusty/don't sound as good or every 6 months, whichever comes first.

When they break. I'm not gigging currently and I'm not going to change strings at home because they're starting to sound less than 100% perfect.

LOL! How about never? A new in Dec 1998 SG - still has original strings, and yes, it gets played a lot. It's my Black Sabbath guitar, and I play Sabbath a lot. They still look and sound good to me, but the fretboard has never been oiled, so it's probably real thirsty.

Doesn't it depend on the quality of the strings as well? I was going to buy a bundle of GHS strings. I play Boomers, but the guy at GC said these cheaper GHS strings would wear out faster.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Re: How often do you...

I'll change them every weekend or 2-3 days when gigging unless I am playing alot on the same guitar.

If you are national and endorsee, yea, new strings are cool every day but not really necessary unless you sweat alot under the lights.

Most of the time its when I want to change gauges, doing work on my guitars or break one on the non main guitars.
