• Swapping Dimarzios/Duncans (wiring ?)

Do the colors/functions of the wires on Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio pups match?

Can you just solder the green Dimarzio wire to where the green Seymour Duncan wire was, the black Dimarzio wire to where the black S.D. wire was, etc?

I am not very good at reading the wiring diagrams...If it helps, I am going to try replacing a Duncan JB with a Dimarzio Evolution..

    Thanks everyone,

    Dan

nope. they don't match up. the green wire on the duncan is ground, the black is hot, and in many cases, the red & white are soldered together and not used.

i'll look for the dimarzio codes and get back to you. stand by.

so...you'll most likely solder the red dimarzio wire where the black duncan wire was, and the white/black ones together (if applicable) and tape them off, and green+ bare wire to where the green + bare duncan wire was.

eh, don't thank me, thank the fine folks at projectguitar.com. they came up on a google search for dimarzio wiring diagrams. dan erlewine has that in his book somewhere, but i'm lazy and don't have a scanner.

            enjoy.
