Jackson P-4 basses

I was thinking about picking up a Jackson P-4 basses that I saw listed online. I'm going to be in the area where the bass is located next week and thought I might give it a try and then buy it if I liked it. Does anyone happen to know the history of this line of basses? You know, things like body wood, pickups, etc...

Also, do you know of any reason to stay away from these basses? Any and all info/help will be greatly appreciated!
