MOTO is that synthetic mother of pearl stuff typically used on pickguards and the like, although I've seen Fender Strats that were covered in MOTO.

An alternate acronym is "MOTS", for obvious reasons.

MOTO is more common, probably because, though less accurate, it's closer to an actual English word.
