is it ok? the guy that suggested this says that lemon oil is not necessary!!!

Never heard of that kind, but there's nothing special about the lemon part. Lots of comparable oils will work. Lemon oil is just popular.

EDIT: i didn't mean to come across as a tool, i'm having a shitty day. lemon oil isn't pointless, but there's much better things to use. sounds like a dedicated fretboard oil is just fine. i wouldn't worry about it at all.

what you want on rosewood and ebony boards is boiled linseed oil.

you can pick some up at you local hardware store.

I agree completely with Sully. Lemon oil is a better cleaner than moisturizer. Isn't that what in Murphy's oil soap? It doesn't soak into boards well. There are several "fretboard oils" on the market. Linseed oil (aka flax seed oil) is another common fretboard treatment.

I thought Linseed oil was just for raw maple boards.
if you use it on ebony doesn't put a seal on the fret board?
I have 2 soloists with ebony baords and a Model 6 with rosewood, and I always use lemon oil on them..
What's better to moisturize these types of boards with, without sealing them. [img]/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif[/img]

don't use boiled linseed on raw maple necks!

raw maple = danish oil or tung oil.

rosewood and ebony = boiled linseed oil

Anything with mineral oil will be fine... lemon oil, baby oil, vaseline, motor oil. Here's an interesting article that states that Jimmy D'Aquisto, the acoustic guitar maker, uses motor oil.

Lee Garver at GMW told me himself to use Linseed oil on their raw maple necks.
