hey all,
with all the recent ebonizing threads, i'm starting to feel bad for my friend, the rosewood fretboard. so, has anyone here ever tried to rosewoodize ebony? how 'bout mapleizing? can poplar or basswood be alderized? or mahoganized?
see, i've got this 1971 les paul custom that i used in the kiss trib band. it's not minty at all, and i think that while the cherry sunburst is cool, it would look better with a maple board. so i've got some naptha, and a great wood bleach that i picked up at a high end lumber store nearby. i figure that i'll have to bleach it a few times to lighten the ebony enough, and then once it's really white, i can hit it with my trusty ol' "golden oak" tinted danish oil. i've also got a nice rosewood stain, but i don't think i'll use that, as it would tint the inlays, and the danish oil won't.
whaddya think? i'll probably start on it soon, and i'll post lotsa pix!
