  • My volume pots crackle when I turn them

I have two hums and two volume pots. When I touch them and turn them they crackle. Are the pots too old now? Thanks.

Maybe you just need to spray some contact cleaner on 'em.

Sounds like they're dirty. There are two different types of contact cleaner, lubricating and non-lubricating. Different types of pots (plastic vs wirewound vs carbon, etc) need different cleaner. However, I'll be darned if I can remember which is which. Check on it before you use the cleaner. Hopefully someone here remembers better than I.

        WARNING!!!!!!
The contact cleaners (which is indeed what you need) can lift the finish right off your axe!

        Just ask Newc...

Pull the pot out before cleaning.
