• When replacing pickups ...

Do you cut the wire of the old pickups at the pots and switch, or what?

Unsolder them. Cuttin is for chumps.

if you cut them, you will just have to unsolder the leftover nubs anyway. May as well save your self the time and just unsolder them.

Well, I just got my Ibanez and Samick's pups switched. It came out pretty good, nothing wrong I can notice. I'm really surprised it came out so well, honestly, cuz it was my first experience with a soldering iron, hell, it was my first experience doing anything involving wires you don't plug into a wall.

If you cut the wires you will shorten the leads, making it much harder to ever use that pickup again. With a soldering iron and a little bit of knowledge you can change pickups all day long.
