• Rhoads and KV cableguide, i need some help

hi
this is to all of you that own, or have worked on a guitar like that
we know that most us models got a stratstyle jackplate in the upper wing, this is a really great feature
the thing is
i want to upgrade my ps3t with that feature and must know where the cable goes
1. are the cableholes drilled directly upwards behind the tremcavity?
2. are there 2 holes in an angle that guide the cable through the trem cavity?
or 3. does the drillhole go above the tremcavity directly to the pickupcavity, so that the cable is guided from the controlcav backwards through pickupcavity to the jackplate
it would be very kind of you if you could post an easy drawing of the cableguide in your axe, or describe it as close as you can
thanks a lot

Re: Rhoads and KV cableguide, i need some help

On this Rhoads Pro I have just laying around, the cable route does NOT go through the trem cavity at all. Neither towards the pup cavity (Why would it? Pup wiring, or signal path, goes: pup --> vol/tone pots --> jack). The route goes from control cavity up towards the upper wing, with no stops along the way Let us know how you do, as I'd like to do this project to my own KVX10 if it's not too tough. Although my routing will take a different, custom path.

that means it goes direcly from controlcav to the jackplate behind the tremcav?
or does ot go through the pickupcavity and above the tremcav?

OOPS! Upon further review, I find my reply up there is partially wrong! Doh! The cable IS in fact routed fron the control cavity through the side of the bridge pup cavity, then goes to the other "wall" of the cavity, then is routed over the top of the trem cav to the jack. Look at the pic I posted, you can clearly see the cable going right through the bridge pup cavity. Sheesh that's what I get for posting at 2 AM.

Re: Rhoads and KV cableguide, i need some help

lookie what happened yesterday late evening:
my bed became a battlefield
i got drills and carvers and started an experiment
first i did the hole for the jackplate with a big conus-drill
http://tinypic.com/o1l4y
<img src="http://tinypic.com/o1l4y">
why do the pics not work this way
http://tinypic.com/o1l7b
<img src="http://tinypic.com/o1l7b">http://tinypic.com/o1mww
<img src="http://tinypic.com/o1mww">
then i did the long hole from the new jackplatehole to the picupcav
never do this at home
if though: things to attend
thake a long 1/4inch drill, i mean really long
mine is 10 inches and i thought it was long, but it wasn´t long enough
take at least one with 11 inches better 12
drink no alcs three days before you do that because
you must aim very exactly, 1 degree in angle make about an inch over that length
so i drilled and drilled, and thought the angle would be quite good
then the drill was nearly at its end and there was a strange scratching noise
i wondered what this could be, thought it was the pickup-bezel screw and removed it, nothing to see
drilled further strange scratching again
so i pulled out the upper trempost and look what i found
http://tinypic.com/o1mhi
<img src="http://tinypic.com/o1mhi">
coul´ve kicked me for that
ok then the drill was already at it´s end so i had to come from the pickupcav other direction
no further problems then
wired it, soldered it, reassembled it
and now ive got a ps3t with a stratstyle-jackplate in the upper wing

<img src="http://tinypic.com/o1mhc">
yes i´m a bit proud of myself, cause things could´ve gone worse
greetz
