  • Wood Types

    Greetings everyone

Would anyone be able to give me some information on the various wood types used in guitars?

How they sound, their weight, etc? I'm specially interested in knowing the differences between Mahogany and Alder.

    Thanks in advance,
    João Pinheiro

        Re: Wood Types

I can do the differences on Mahogany and Alder:
Alder is a very light woodspecies. Compared to most dense mahogany guitars that is. Mahogany has a lot of midrange in the tone followed by a fair amount of bass. Alder is a little more balanced but actually leaning on the bright side. Alder is very similar to Poplar except for the weight, Alder is slightly lighter. Most people (like myself) like Mahogany because it sustains really well. Alder however, is very tough and can take a good beating from my experiences.
