• What is this book-matched wood that you speak of?

Someone pls explain what is meant by "book-matched" in terms of certain types of wood used, i.e., book-matched mahogany, book-matched maple, etc. Thanx!

Bookmatching refers to a splitting of wood. Take a plank and carve it down the middle and open it like a big textbook. The exposed grain on both "pages" will be mirror images with each other, creating the symmetry on trans tops. Sometimes you see the line down the middle, and other times, it is done so well that you don't see the line and it really DOES look symmetrical.

Look at this, you can see the line in the middle:

Thanx NOTP! So, it plays an esthetic role in trans tops. Does it affect resonance at all? I ask cuz it's used on solid colors as well. Is this method a sign of a better built guitar or is it standard practice for most that are built?

sully: that gtr has a pretty small PU switch. when you switch pickups, does the flamed maple say "is it in yet"? </dumbass mode>
