the only way to do any real damage is if you go crazy and start cranking on it. tightening the nut will correct upbow, loosening the nut will correct back bow-start off slow, only like an eighth of a turn at a time, and most people reccomend loosening the strings first and then retuning. Some people also like to give the neck a few hours to adjust to the tension change-whereas some people say that is a bunch of hooey. I have personally never had a neck that required more than a very slight tweak of the rod. I guess it is due to the not so drastic climate changes here in PA or back in NJ. THen again, I'm not real picky about my setups.

Yeah. What etaeniura said. And be carful. Is the adjustment at the heel or the headstock? At the Head, if you look down the neck, you can see it move as you do the adjustment. Some guitars with the adjustment at the heel, the neck may need to come off. Those kind make me sad.
