  • Advice on floyd nut height needed

    Guys,
How do you judge the height on a Floyd locking nut?. I have buzzing at the low end and I'm not sure if I should shim the nut or loosen the truss rod.......
    Thanks
    Ian

When you say buzzing at the low end, do you mean at the lower frets? If so, then yes, your nut may need to be shimmed. However, you should check the relief of the neck first.

Nut height should be set according to how far the strings are above the frets. It is probably one of the most overlooked details when setting up a guitar, and can really make the difference between an awesome guitar, and a total dog. I'll admit that I am almost exclusively a rhythm player, so I spend most of my time at the lower frets, so it's very important to me to have my nut height set properly. If your nut is too high, it will make bar chords very difficult, and cause unnecessary fatigue to your hands.
