• Truck plate on face of a guitar......

...anyone done this, and how did you fix the plastic diamond-plate sheet onto the guitar? Also, what did you do at the edge?

Not me. I wouldn't ask how to do it, I'd just say I did it
Or screwed it up trying

Try scuffing the finish up with some 400 grit paper, then coat the top in ModPodge craft glue (or Elmer's Carpenter's Glue, Titebond, 2-part epoxy, etc) and lay the plate onto it. Once it dries (and assuming you've already cut the plate the correct size for the body), you should be able to sand the edges to a nice smooth bevel, or trim it with a sharp knife and then sand it smooth by hand.
