• building my own Van Halen 1 Strat (pix inside!)

    hi bros
i know it´s not a charvel/jackson, but i thought this would fit here perfect.

i had an old cheap stratcopy which i painted red 8 years ago and now i thought "it´s about time" for something new.
so i decided to make my own VH1 strat.

1st of all a picture of the old guitar as it was before i start this all.

that´s the one how my should look like:

o.k. first i sanded it down:

    and the back

after that i painted it black:

then i put on some stipes, i tried to make it as original as possible.

o.k. and now put on the white paint:

after 8 hours of drying it pulled of the sripes and then it looked like this:

    and the back:

now it was time for the clearcoat, and during drying up, it bought a new pickguard and cleaned up the hardware.

oh, i need a maple fretboard! o.k. so i bought a used maple/maple neck and put on the tuners. the holes were drilled already, but they doesn´t fit on my guitar. so i filled it up with wood and sanded them down.

the guitar is not finished already. i´ll post pictures when she is ready to go!

i hope you enjoy the pix.

Cool job...when you're done, put it on ebay for $15,000!

Looks great. What kind of paint did you use? Is that lacquer
        in a spray can?

Looks like you're having a good time and job looks great! Thanks for posting.

No sanding in the paint/clear coat process at all?

Hurry up and finish it, i wanna see.

i used acryl lacquer out of the spraycans, but synthetic resin paint would be better.

the lacquer has to dry completly before i do the next step.

yes, i did sand it a bit with a 600 paper.

btw. this was a test guitar, the next one will be a peavey wolfgang special and it will be a candystripe design.

Look great man, I bet that's a fun project.

There's a great Warmoth neck for sale in the classifieds right now that would be perfect for that guitar.

That's very good work! Nice job! What kind of clear coat did you use and did you use multiple coats with sanding in between? I'm trying to pick up some pointers as I have a project body that's pretty much finished except I want to add a thicker clear coat.

Unfortunately, you guitar might look so much like Eddie's that you may be contacted by his attorneys with a cease and desist order!!

o.k. here is the final result:

yes i know, the pup should be black, but i like the look of the white one too.
maybe i´ll paint the pup black some day.
btw. it´s a dimarzio tonezone pup.

yes, it was my first "pro" paintjob. the only thing i did before was painting this guitar completly red as you can see in the first picture, but that was easy and uncompareable (does this word exist?) to this paintjob.
