• Recording from cassette tape to computer

How would I record what I have on audio cassette tapes to my computer as MP3 files? I'm guessing I could play the tape on a a tape player and then run a cord from its headphone jack into my computer's microphone input, but I'd lose the stereo effect and some of the quality since I think my mic input is mono. Got any suggestions?

Use the Line out on the cassette and line in on your sound card.

I do that using Cool Edit 2000, and/or Cool Edit Pro. Recording from the tape player (headphone line) to the sound card line in to your PC (to keep it stereo). Then convert the WAV file into Mp3s, using the same program. Remember that it makes the tape audio to CD quality sound. If you want to do it better, you can add the audio plug-ins, like the hiss eliminator. You can download the trial version of Cool Edit 2000 from Syntrillium.com

Yeah, it's only for a one-time thing, so the demo version of Cool Edit 2000 will be good enough for the job.

          Thanks dudes!!!
