the Dean V's are totally unbalanced.
When you play you have to hold it down or else
it will go completely vertical !
And since it is a V you cant sit with it either.
I don't think the sound is any good at all.
I recommend you to go try before you buy.
And the best thing would be to save up to a Jackson !!

I think it depends on what you are looking for.

On the low end, I'd say stay away from the bolt-ons.. junky..

I'd look at the 79 series guitar.. I push them alot because they offer an authentic look and feel for a low to mid-range price.

I don't own a V, I have a Z, and I can tell you it is everybit as nice as my *real* 85 Gibson Explorer.

I assume that the V is similar, but I can't comment on the "balance".

If you can afford it, a Time Capsule is quite the experience.

If you're after a Shred guitar, get the Jackson..

if you want a more traditional look.. check out the Dean..

If you're serious about a Dean.. go to the Dean forum, they'll help you out.

I also have a 79' RI Z and for the money they are hard to beat, if you like Deans. For the same money you could get a Jackson DK2 which imo is a better :shredding" guitar. You would be hard pressed for a better "stage" guitar than the Z of course.
With regards to fit and top heavyness, the only guitar I have ever had like that was a Jackson KV-2. While it wasn't a problem playing standing up, I did have difficulty when I sat. To each his own. Try them before you buy them.
