  • Dean Evo or Fernandes Ravelle?

My next guitar might possibly be one of these:

    Dean Evo Premium
    http://www.deanguitars.com/content/i...evopremtge.htm

    or

    Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe
    http://www.fernandesguitars.com/guitars/ravelle.html

I have never owned or played a Dean or Fernandes guitar so I have no point of reference.

Please let me know what you guys think about the quality, playability, tone of these guitars.

Re: Dean Evo or Fernandes Ravelle?

    Both are great guitars.

I have a Fernandes Ravelle. It's a great guitar for the price. $650. Has an actual carved maple top (not veneer), Real Duncan PU's jb & Jazz (not DD's), mahogany neck & body(not alder/mahogany mix or nato), graphite nut, grover tuners.
Quality is great. Nice fit and finish. Action is superb, Great feel. Very balanced body. I can rest it on my knee and it stays put. Doesnt neck dive or slide around.
No complaints. Gets me that LP type tone. PLus with the coil split you get a total of 6 PU combinations.

I plan on getting a Dean EVO Premium eventually, myself.
They are also very nice. I do feel they have a few advantages over the Ravelle.
Nicer flame or quilt maple tops
    Ebony Fretboard
    Easier upper fret access.
But, the EVO costs around $800 or so.

The EVO premiums are made in the Czech republic.
The Ravelle is made in Korea or China.

Quality of construction I'd say they are on par.

Either way, you'll have a nice lp style axe.

    Keep an eye on Ebay.
    Ravelle's new go for around $650 w/case.
    EVO's for $799.
Sometimes used ones pops up for less.

That's a nice looking guitar dude. I think I would take off that pickguard though. Just my personal preference.

So in your opinion do you think both of those guitars are comparable to a Yamaha Weddington Classic?

          I'd vote for the Dean.

The *New* Dean is more like the *old* Dean than ever before.

          Great guitars, no foolin.

Re: Dean Evo or Fernandes Ravelle?

I tried out a truly gorgeous ML one time at my local music store. I had been eyeing it for some time, and was pretty much in love with it. Finally one day I ask to try it out. Let's just say I put it down pretty quick when I felt the neck. I just didn't like it at all.

Was it a bolt on neck?

I've got one of the new 79 series set neck Explorers.

I gotta say... wow! It's right up there with the Jacksons as far as neck feel.

It's not as "thin", it has a slight D shape, I've got small hands and it feels good.

                  My fav "Big Body" guitar.

Re: Dean Evo or Fernandes Ravelle?

No, it was a pretty fancy high end thingamajig, either neck thru or set neck, I don't really remember, but it had a very pronounced 'V' shaped neck. It felt absolutely horrible to me.

I dont think the EVO has the V shaped neck. I believe it's more designed after the 60's slim taper lp neck.
