    Re: Kramer Focus 1000

Imagine a laminated lump of Asian scrapwood chunks coated with an almost unsandable solid finish with parts Kramer would not have dared to put on anything that had their name in large lettering. This does include a Floyd with no fine tuners...

Went for about $250 new in '85...
    Worth about $2.50, IMO...
    750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

I can't speak for the quality of the wood, but the "Focus" series was Kramer's higher end import back in the day. They sported real fine tuning Floyds and Shaller pickups. My first real guitar was a red '85 or '86 Focus 1000, and I loved it! I bought it new for $375/case. I believe the list price was around $500.

Early Focus were excellent guitars. Later ones were just scrap wood held together by the paint. There was a big difference...........

If it's a bannana head, it is a top of the line ESP with crappy electronics.

A Baretta on a budget/not laminated. The Striker series was. Should have an OFR too. Very decent for what they go for. And yes ESP made. Get a new pickup and go to town

I bought a new Focus in '85. Was as described in my previous post.

Maybe I shoulda asked for a 'real' Focus?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Wrong answer, but thank you for playing. You must have it confused with a Striker. I have a Focus 1000 I bought new in 1986. Here's a brief description:

Price new - $480.00 on sale
Original Floyd Rose with fine tuners
                Basswood body
                One-piece maple neck
                Single Schaller humbucker
                Made in Japan by ESP

I have yet to see one of these old 80's Focus guitars that didn't still have a really sweet neck.

                To the original poster:
Make no mistake about it, these were really nice guitars which still stack up today in their price range.

                  Re: Kramer Focus 1000

By the way, BK, here's a pic of my imports:

They are, from left to right:
                  Charvel Model 2 (recently bought)
                  Kramer Focus 1000
                  Jackson DX10X

In order of quality, I would rank them
                  1. Focus 1000
                  2. Model 2 (it's close to the Kramer, but not quite because the Kramer has an OFR and the Model 2 has a JT6.
                  3. DX10X (single-locking cheapie JT500 trem)

Sorry PT - It was a Focus. It may have been a 2000, but def-in-at-ly a Focus.

Wow dude! That focus looks exactly like the one I had, except for the pickup. Way cool!

I've seen Focii (plural of focus, heheh) with non fine tuning floyds on em.

The Focus 1000, 2000, 3000 series were excellent budget guitars. Not plywood.

Close to the Model 2 - 4 line in Quality, slightly better cause of the OFR.

Later ones were bad, but 85 - 87 are pretty nice.
