  • Bass amp - how much power?

I am looking to buy a bass head. I need enough power to be heard over a drummer and an electric guitar in a basement practice environment.

How much power into 8 ohms or 4 ohms do I need? I am seeing a lot of amp heads in my price range that have around 200 watts into 8 ohms or 350 watts into 4 ohms, but I don't want to buy anything underpowered.

I was looking into some Carvin heads, until I read one too many reviews on Harmony Central that questioned their reliability. I am now looking into Ampeg, Fender, and Hartke.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

what kind of cabinet are you going to use? or do you want a combo amp?a 40 watt combo should work for a practice rig.i'm using a audio centron 1600 stereo amp bi amped into a jbl 15 scoop cab and a 2 x 10 cab for high end with a peavey max bass preamp as stage setup.

      I was thinking a 4x10 with a horn.
