Hey guys ...Billy almost always relied on a little bit of fat tube overdrive and a lot of mids for his tone . In the early days of Talas '79 - 82 he used Pierce preamps mostly and old big Ampeg SVT W / 8 -10 cabs.
His tone is also very much in his hands...obviously. His placement of finger picking along the tonal range of the right hand playing area ...from bridge to neck and alot of slap harmonics along the way.

Billy's right hand is incredible ...I can smoke him in the tapping / Slapping dept....but his gift is his right four fingers.!!!

That stereo Yahmaha is not that important but any decent bass with FRESH set of Rotosound 105's is a good start!!

and a new Cravin or Ampeg SVT or even some of the Harke heads can dial up a Sheehan sound very nicley

Yes John Hard to beleive ...I guess but it's very very true I'm not one for lying ...I was never good at it

I'm not bragging , really ...Sheehan is a very strong player but he can't slap or tap his way out of a paper bag ....Billy would be the first to admit that I assume.

It's true ...take my word for it

Sorry about the end of my discription got cut off.. computer missed up. Horns if your so good why dont you have like a EVH band but instead of EVH its you on bass. Not to mention from your point of view your the best bass plaer in the world. I meen for you being so succeful on your insturment why dont you have any video's of yourself. To be truthful I would truly enjoy a mid 30's male going through his mid life crisses To totally slam billy sheehan. Im sure there are people who can...Les claypool, Michael Balzary and people like that could possible but wait your better than les claypool and Michael Balzary I already know you are gonna say that. So it would be really cool to get some videos of you..Since your the best i would like to learn from your videos. Pointless to watch billy if I found someone who is way better and isnt big. You gotta teach me some of your stuff "brotha" lol.

(and no I wasnt watching porno at the time)

He had an EVH tribute band, and the guitarist was the guy from the Atomic Punks.. or am I mistaken, Bill?

Re: Billy Sheehan tone

Check out the MP3 section.....My VH tribute is on there No bass shredding just three random VH songs...tell me watcha think

I have some old videos of me tearing it up Live with the Van Halen thing. I did a four minute solo each night.
BTW No word my guitarist in my VH gig was Tony Jackson and he smokes that dude in atomic punks ....check the Mp3s......Too bad the recording is horrible!!!!

We were going to Be the backup band back in late 97. ...that fell by the way side . Then he did his DLR thing and that too fell by the way side

The talent is there ...the luck and timing isn't unfortunately . There are many of us in that boat....and it's a very big boat !!

I haven't touched a bass in the last four years....sold it all for guitar stuff ....and now I'm in da shreddin mode
