  • low b

as i mostly play 4 string and use a detuner, i've recently bought a cheap 5 string, i started wondering about tuneing a 4 like the lower strings on a 5. can i use a heavy set of 4 string set or should i use a 5 string set.i know a truss rod adjustment would be necessary, but would it be too much tension?if i should have use the tech section, i'm sorry, but i figured i should go to the bass players first. horns? Re: low b

Use the lower strings from a 5string set. Even a heavy E will be floppy in comparison when tnued down to B.

I wouldn't worry too much about the truss rod not being able to handle it, it should be fine (after adjustment). However, you may run into problems with your bridge not being able to intonate properly for the B if it is too far forwards (physically on the body). If it will handle it, GREAT! Yer in business.
