  • 1995 USA Charvel San Dimas Truss Rod Problem

I recently purchased my 3rd 1995 USA Charvel San Dimas (I have a Koa and a Traditional). This one's a Standard. I was setting it up today and noticed that none of my allen wrenches were a fit. I have a gripper truss rod from Stew Mac that I tried next but it too couldn't get a grip. Am I missing something? Does this look stripped or is it missing some part? Any special tool required for these truss rods? Any help will be appreciated!

PS - wait, how do I upload images?

    Cheers!

Upload the images to an image hosting site like imgur and then link from there.

Did you try 3/16th inch allen key. I feel like you never know with truss rods if its metric or inches untill you try.

Thanks Ed. I believe I did. I have a small tools chest for guitar in which I dump all truss rod wrenches I get - although most are 4mm there are a few with different sizes and I tried them all. I've written to Charvel but don't think they'd respond so soon.

So I called up Charvel today and they don't have information on these. Bummer

When you say you phoned Charvel, to me that means you likely actually called Fender, and they will only share info for Jackson/Charvel guitars past Fender's acquisition date of 2002. Anything prior to that is ignored by Fender.

You're right! That's exactly what they told me (I got their phone number from their auto-reply email). They said they don't have information prior to 2002. Sigh!

I'm planning on buying a hex key set and see which one fits. Any recommendations? (I'm in the US)

Get a metric and standard set, it's good to have both anyway.

I did. The size that fit was 4.5mm! Hope this helps someone in the future!
                    Thanks to everyone who helped
