• Listen to this stupid pawnshop crap....

Okay, I know I'm not a regular poster any more, but I had to tell you guys about this one, even though it won't surprise any of you. I just got back from this pawnshop, and when I walked in there were 2 Jackson RR models hanging side by side...both black, and with the same features...floyds, sharkfins, basically identical. Except for one thing: One was a USA model in excellent condition for $699. The other was a Professional Series that was hammered and missing both strap buttons for $799!! I went and asked the manager why they were asking more for an import in lousy condition than a USA model in great conditon. His response? "Well, as you can see, this is a Professional Model." I said "Dude, that's an import, and the other one is Made in USA." He just stared at me like he didn't know what I was saying. Finally I said "Look, it doesn't matter to me. I already have one and I don't want this one. But you guys are backwards in your pricing." He just stared at me and shrugged his shoulders, and I walked out. What an idiot! Oh, if anybody in Austin wants to check it out, let me know and I'll tell you where it is. Might be able to get a good deal on it.

Well if he did try, he'd find out quickly that his price is too high! Can you say "0 bids" ?

Yeah, the "Professional" label can be misleading to the uninformed.

Sorta like the Seymour Duncan "Full Shred" and the "Screamin' Demon". You'd think they're ultra-high-output screamers, but they're actually not! And the Dimarzio "Humbucker From Hell". You'd think it was a super-hot monster of a pickup, but it's supposedly a single coil sound from a humbucker!

Why would you give away our seceats to a pawnshop, thats how we pickup USA guitars for cheap, I would have said yea the pro guitar is awesome but that other guitar is way to high.

Dana,
That would really be funny if you said that to the guy AND you were there in the shop with freind that WANTED to buy the US model. Better yet,

When I want to stir up trouble. I use the same tactic when I go pawn shopping with a friend.

What I usually say is "Hey, You could get alot more for that on ebay". He threatens to shoot me and Promises to get even on some great guitar someday.
I have to be feeling really good
to say that.
It's like slugging a bees nest,
be prepared to RUN like hell.

That sounds similar to the story that Me, Neddi, and Joel encountered in our first stop during the Chicago JCF ShredTest... Did either one have Bass strings on them? ;-)

BobbyVee, why worry about "giving away our secrets to pawnshops?" Pawnshop employees generally last only a few months and then are replaced by someone else who is incompetent. Who cares? They sure didn't care, and the guy wasn't about to do anything about the price. I'm also not really into lying to somebody to get a better deal on a guitar, even if it is a pawnshop. There will always be good deals to be had at pawnshops regardless of what I say to them. Besides, it's no secret that those people don't know anything and that guitar players frequently make out really well. I don't even think the guy believed me, which is usually the case. He'll probably mark up the "Professional" model instead of the USA one just to spite me.

it's not the employee's that know, if you notice they always have to go to the boss for special prices, and those guys are getting hip. I would not deceive someone for my own personal gain, but if they think pro is better I would let them.

BV, it was the manager who said that, not just an employee. He was just as ignorant as the next guy.
