  • has anyone tryed ruby tubes ?

Ruby tubes are just relabeled tubes from other manufacturers. If you are retubing a Mesa product get the tubes from Mesa or do what I do and get them at www.thetubestore.com. Mesa has a fixed bias so your power tubes need to fall in that range. I wouldn't trust Ruby's myself. The JJ's that the tube store sent me for my 20/20 power amp sound great. If you do go through the tube store be sure to tell them what amp you are retubing and they will hook you up with the right range tubes.

No it means it will take tubes that fall into the bias range. It means you need to get them from someone who will test the tubes to make sure they fall within that range.

The Mesa 20/20 has EL84's and according to Mesa you don't have to worry about bias on EL84's, only 6L6's and EL 34's.

At least that's what they told me when I retubed my 20/20......lol.

Since you are using 6L6's, Soloist1 was correct in saying that whatever brand you use has to be in that "bias range" to work with Mesa amps. Because Mesa amps are a fixed bias.

You can use any brand of tube you want they just have to be the same size as what is already in there ie 6l6 el34 and so on.I found that the best tubes for mesa are the jj tubes I have been using them for 2 years and to me nothing else compares.Go to www.eurotubes .com and check out what bob has he will set you up with what you need or call him 503 659 7401 The guy knows his sh*t.Hopes this helps you later paul...

A guitarist I used to work with (who is also an electronics tech) uses Rudy Tubes in his Boogie. They work and sound great for him.
