  • Adding wood to a guitar?

    Hi guys,

I realize this is both ridiculous, and would probably be very expensive for little to no benefit, but would there be any downsides to adding a large piece of wood to a guitar? I've been looking for a cheap(ish) hard tail explorer type guitar, with the same shape as a gibson one (aside from a kelly none of the other variants do it for me) but with a slimmer neck profile/jumbo frets, etc. The best alternative i found was actually a kramer imperial but those are proving to be incredibly hard to find in a TOM version.

Anyway, a thought occurred to me. The Charvel star is basically just an explorer with a triangle chunk cut out of the bottom, could that chunk be feasibly re-added? I know it would add a huge cost for the wood and repainting and is borderline heretical. But could it be done?

    Cheers

You can do just about anything if you pay enough money. Why don't you just buy a new body, have it painted and then throw a neck on it? If you're not doing the work yourself, it would be cheaper.

That would work too, although I haven't been able too find many nice bolt on explorer bodies either.

KNE make solid bodies. I ordered a mahogany hardtail dinky, coupled it with a model 2 neck, and she sings very beautifully.

You can add anything to a guitar to make it work! For example.......
