  • Neck finishing advice

I want to finish a neck in a golden hue like older Charvels. It is currently bare wood. Suggestions, or should I just shop at Re-Ranch?

I have never done that but I have heard of folks using a tinted lacquer to get that golden aged look. From what I have read you can easily use too much and mess it up.

Yep, I've been looking everywhere for tinted spray lacquer but not finding any. Lowes, Home Depot, WalMart, Ace.

Plenty of choices for brush on / rub on stains.

I've also heard coffee was used, Watco Danish Oil, Tru-Oil for gunstocks.

So many suggestions it gets confusing.

I believe what I read was they used a brush on type that the tint was added to. It only takes a little otherwise you end up with a crazy yellow rather than the aged look. i will try and find the article I read that talked about the technique. You are right about options though...so many to choose from!

          DonP,

Here is a pretty good tutorial on how to do it. http://www.ronkirn.com/tutorial/strat_tutorial4.htm Of course you can adjust the color to your taste depending on just how "vintage/aged" you want to go! I also hear others raving about the Reranch spray lacquer which most likely will not have any mixing involved... "E"

The lightly tinted oil Danish or gun stock work good. The coffee doesn't golden u can relic w it tho. Some of it I think is the wood and age too
