  • new saddles or new unit

it is a jackson 580 trem.
repair guy said it needed 6 saddles, for $90.

i don't know if i am going to fix the guitar (based on the other work he said it needs), part it out, or just take it to a 2nd opinion, but...

would it be better to get a new floyd or to just do the saddles?

repair cost to guitar value ratio:
this is on an 2010 mij. not a grover era, or newer usa model.

Never really saw one wear out the saddles. Are the string locking screw holes stripped? Is it a 580 Lo Pro?
Post a pic so we can see up close.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

$90 bucks for saddles? I would go this route because you can get a Black OFR for $169.95. This is the whole system as well brand new. They're on sale right now at AMS. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item-...m_medium=feed&

This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

        Yes, its a lp.
Next question: are they interchangeable if I got regular saddles.

The LP saddles are different they have the short string lock screws.Totally different saddles than a std OFR. Stew Mac or all parts have the right ones. What is wrong with the old saddles you never said.Like I said I have never seen one wear out.Sure if you over tighten them they can crack but thats about it. I abused the one on my 92 fusion H-H and it still works perfectly. Mine was made by Takeuchi not sure which one you have.

You could find a good used one on the Bay for less than $90.00 I would imagine.

Years and years of funk build up. To be honest its a great trem I did wear out the pivot posts over time and installed OFR posts.
The knife edges are perfect no wear at all which was a surprise.
I have a OFR Lo pro in the guitar right now and its a tad brighter sounding.I will probably clean the 580 and put it back in at some point because it is smoother feeling than the OFR.

                    What's wrong with them is:
User Error. Prior to me owning it, of course. *did i mention that i bought it used, and this is its first setup.

Plus, this a new guy to me that I was testing out. He is a perfectionist. None of these duct tape and nail polish fixes.
I think he tries to make every guitar new again.

WD-40 and an old tooth brush work wonders and cost less than a new bridge or even saddles.

Any way you could possibly put more shit into your sig?
