  • finish defect common on Dinkys?

Saw a snakeskin Dinky on E(vil)Bay that had a VERY similar finish defect on the head stock in about the exact same place as a previous one of mine. Was/is this lifting of the clear common with the Snakeskin Dinkys?

It was fairly common on many guitars... Something they really should have covered under warranty. Ive been pretty lucky to never have one with that problem.

Yeah, that was common on US Jacksons and Charvels with unfinished necks i.e. in areas where the clear had an 'edge' it started to lift. They covered it under warranty twice for me. Once on a DK1, once on a CS XTRR.

Apparently, when they re-cleared the XTRR the problem happened again while it was curing (this was on the body as well as the head) and they had to return it to DRL to get him to do it. I forget if it was due to the products used or the process.

It seems that the problem has been sorted now.

That sux. I've never owned an American made one and my imports aren't doing that. There's got to be a fix for it.

I emailed the guy asking if it was peeling up. HE said yeah but didn't know why. I told him it was very common with dinkys from the USA.

My copper snakeskin DK1 is now showing some signs of lifting, but my local authorized dealer said it is not bad enough yet to send in.
