  • Nut Cutting!

In the few short years I've been dealing with locking nuts I have never run across this.
My DK2M keeps cutting my high E string. I recently picked the guitar up and it's on its second .08 E string. Aggravating since now where around me sells individual .08 strings. For the moment it's tuned and locked down. There seems to be a sharp edge on the locking nut that will cut the string, at least really thin strings.
Is it okay to just file down the sharp edge or is there more to it?
And no, I won't be switching to heavier strings.
Turn the volume to 10 and rip off the knob!

Would it not be easier to buy a new R3 nut?

carefully take the edge off the nut. You'll hose up intonation and tone if you round it too much. Look at all edges - top bottom and sides. Try to take the least off the bottom that you can. It's the most critical area.

If you can safely, remove the nut and use some kind of magnifying lens if you can. I got a set of 3 from Radioshack that was about $5 or $7 that work really well. Make sure it's not the nut clamp block that's doing it. You may also want to try a different brand to make sure the store you got them from didn't get a bad batch of strings.
