  • What to use over nitro?

I have an opportunity to get a body "doodled" by an artist. She does these really great doodles & we got to talking and thought it would be cool to do a guitar body.

The body will be shot with nitrocellulose lacquer - opaque white - for her to doodle on. Then when she's finished, I'll clear it.

So, the question is; what medium can I get her to do the doodle with? I was thinking sharpie maybe? I don't know..................

i tihnk clear coat will cause the sharpie to bleed/run. I would paint it white with a primer, and have her draw on the primer which should hold the ink better than nitro.

Practice on a scrap piece of wood first.

You can clear over sharpie, and all kindsa markers. The secret is many dust coats (lighter than a light coat) until you get enough build up. With lacquer, it'll all melt into each other eventually, so you'll be fine. If you lay it on too heavy, you absolutely will run the risk of making the ink run.

Good call on white primer, btw.
