  • EMG H-1 and an unknown pick up

Got a trade in today and looks like a MIJ Dinky.Serial number is 9739506 Tag said DXMG but not sure.Reverse head with small logo.
Bridge had the EMG H-1 which aren't bad pick ups but the neck had some odd ball pick up I'm guessing Korean mfg.
If anyone can ID it that would be great.

This guitar looks like it sat in a barn somewhere or a dingy basement.
Trem base plate is fine the string lock screws have some oxidation built up on them so scrubbing all the parts well ATM.
Two locking blocks rusted in the saddles but some WD 40 has them loose so I think I can save them for back ups when I need one or two.
It will be getting new blocks anyway.
Pretty good guitar over all one minor ding in the clear I think I can fill and buff out.
Frets are in great shape and the neck is straight just need to 0000 steel wool the frets and oil the board.
Tip of the headstock has some bite marks looks like. I can fill those too so not a huge problem.
I'm into it cheap so I don't mind a little work to make it right.

Model should be on the neck heel and pocket.

Never heard of that neck pickup. Judging from the yellow sleeve on the wire, definitely some sort of Southeast Asian by-product.

Never heard of the H1, either. Is it hotter than the H3?

I'm assuming the DXMG's were made in Japan just not sure.
The chart posted elsewhere doesn't mention these exactly.

97 serial should be Japan, though I thought all Xs were made in India. Guess not.

The H3 is well below 13K - more of a PAF-ish tone, according to EMG. Works great with the Afterburner on about 3 - very clear and articulate, but not flat like the actives. Doesn't do palm muted stuff too well without the AB, though. I can imagine the H1 wouldn't like the Afterburner

DXMG was always Japan, as was the DXMGT.

Thanks Rob I figured starting with a 9 it was MIJ.
Trem locking screws are still funky after soaking and scrubbing the white shit just won't budge.
Where do people store their guitars anyway? This thing was was really filthy.
The guy had a MIK KH 202 LTD too that was in better shape but I stayed loyal to Jackson.

First year dxmg was india if I recall. They can be identified by the non LP jt580 trem.Japan models all had the 580 LP.

I was gonna say, what makes the DXMG different from the DKMG that both would be Japan? Which one had piranhas? Surely that was the DX? Or was that the first-years? Or was it the DK?
