Here is something that is puzzling me:think:

    a german made schaller
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_1069wt_1159

and here is the korean floyd rose special
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A34VCPZVL7E6XQ

as you can see the german made OFR is only $70 more:think: is the MIK special that good or is it just friggin totally overpriced?

Special = pot metal from what I've been told. Not sure on the other stuff. I by used old school stuff that I'm sure is German.

Yeah, the older original Floyd stuff is just better quality, down to the screws that hold the locking nuts.

PS - Parts that come in that "Original Floyd Rose" packaging are German, made by Schaller.

First one is German made part for sure. It even comes with top mount screws. FR special has zinc saddles and sustain block. The baseplate is supposed to be made of same hardened steel as OFR.
I like to buy good steel parts like German Floyd or Japanese Gotoh parts saves you a lot of hassle later on.

Has anyone put the MIK stuff on a hardness tester and compared it to Schaller-made stuff?

Not sure it would be a fair test since the Korean Floyd has a much thicker base plate, but weighs the same as the Schaller Floyd, in my not so scientific test.

I got hold of a genuine Gotoh lock nut and wasn't overly impressed by the quality, although with Gotoh small parts, inevitably there are a lot of fakes about, especially given their Eco, low tech packaging. Trems are supposed to be great though and price = same as German OFR.

Last time I checked you could get a foreign made genuine OFR for $150, a German made OFR for around $180 and a 1984 Model German made OFR for $210.

Schaller Floyd Rose II's are cheaper again, but still made in Germany, new, probably equivalent in price to the foreign made OFR, if you can find one and they have slightly less intonation range, are shorter (Due to having shorter intonation machine screws) and have that kind of knarly pitted finish. I prefer OFR's.

German Floyd Rose II vs. Foreign made (Eg. As found on Charvel USA San Dimas Style 1's and II's and Pro Mods) OFR. That is a comparison I'd like to see. I'm sure that not everything that only says 'Floyd Rose' on it is what it once was.

Genuine Floyd lock nuts are around $35....

Typical German nonchalant attitude. Everyone knows that the very best steel was produced in Sheffield UK....before Thatcher started selling off our industry to foreign interests and introduced unregulated American free market investment, asset stripping banking to the UK shores....and see where that got us.

Germans just have good systems and and strict quality control standards and pay well. Actually some of the very best steel is currently produced in Japan.

Damnit Germany and the Prussian Empire would still be in the dark ages of starvation if it wasn't for the industrial revolution invented in Great Britain.

Great Britain, the innovator of invention and quality, destroyed by the new world cowboys of fictional wealth.

Actually that said if Floyd's were produced in the UK in the late 70's / early 80's they probably would have fallen apart after two hours and they probably would have only made three a year due to union strikes.

GB put you all on the map!

But they do make exceedingly good Floyd Rose's though.
