  • Humbucker in ash Charvel Fusion copy

I have a guitar. It is japanese Charvel Fusion copy. Like Charvel Fusion it has ash body (specifically it is japanese ash called sen, I read that it sounds like american ash), 24.75 scale, mapple/rosewood neck and floyd rose. To my ears, my ash body guitar has a lot of highs and not enough mids. It's bright guitar.

I want to find good humbucker in bridge. For metal. I want good "readable" pickup with good mids. Not for brutal, just from Iron Maiden to Slayer.

    What can you recommend me?

What about Duncan Distortion? Or JB?

Those are VERY bright pickups. I do love the DD but have only liked the JB in one guitar. The JB has a 6 for mids 8 for highs and the DD has an 8 but a 9 for highs. The JB is sometimes installed using a 250 pot to cut the highs. I go with the rule of tumb seymour duncan has a lot of bright pickups and dimarzio goes more towards the low and mids.

            Rich#6, thank you for advices.
And what do you think will be better: DiMarzio SD or ToneZone?

Interesting comparison of pickups in japanese ash Schecter:

Just not only my opinion that he didn't solder Duncan Custom correctly...

DC sounded bad didn't it. DC has the mids scooped so not what you are looking for (I love it)

I don't pursue the high output. What the difference in sound between Tone Zone and Super D?

i agree that tone zone will be better... plus i believe the super distortion will bring out too much brightness in the ash body.

                      Try a SD Custom Custom

Although it might be higher output than you're looking for, the Duncan Invader works well in ash because it is (surprisingly) pretty balanced across all frequencies but has sufficient mids and lows to offset the brightness of ash. I have three ash Jacksons, and the one with an Invader has the best tone of the three for any kind of metal.
