  • Truss Rod Adjustments = Creeking?

Was doing a setup on my Model 4 earlier since I switched string gauges and went to straighten the neck a bit. A quarter of a turn and I heard wood creek so I stopped. I figure this is probably normal so long as there was no "CRACK" or "POP," since the neck did straighten as intended and I wasn't just blindly turning it rapidly. Still, should I be paranoid/take the neck off and check anything?

    Thanks.

Creaking is normal. It's actually the rod flexing/turning. So long as you don't use a power drill with a trussrod bit on it, it's fine.

you could use a q-tip dipped in wd40 and lube the truss rod (while turning it clock and counter clockwise) a bit.

Mine did the same thing when adjusting the truss rod....

I used a teflon lube similar to how moku suggested and it's smooth now...
