  • How difficult is it to drill trem studs with template

Was looking at a body that has no trem studes drilled. It's for a flotde and the body has everything drilled, just not the studs. Difficult job with Stew Macs templates?

If you have a good drill press with a flat/straight table and clamps and everything else, that, it shouldn't be too hard.

If you're talking hand drilling them, or using a drill stand... I'd look elsewhere for a body with the studs pre-drilled.

I bought a guitar back in 1989 like this.

Eager to play it, I bought a Schaller from stew-mac. I just set the trem in the route hole and figured where the holes should go by having the trem there. I then hand power drilled the two screw holes (old school FR screws). One leans a little bit forward, but not too much. It's playable.

Now I see that route is for an OFR, not a Schaller FR. So I'm going to plug the holes and drill press in stud bushings.

Moral of the story is yes, you can do it, but you might want to do it correctly.
