  • OFR vs. Gotoh on a SL2H and/or RR1

Have been a life-long Original Floyd Rose user with the only exception(s) being the Schaller lic'd version. Did have a bit of success with an original Edge back in the early 90's but the newer Edge pros I've tried just pissed me off. My biggest gripe about the Edge varieties were that the push-in arm flopped all over the place, even when I used new bushings and wrapped a little teflon plumbers tape around the inserted portion of the arm. Lately, I've been reading alot about the superior quality of the Gotoh lic'd version (and perhaps the decline of manufacturing quality in the Schaller factory???)

Anyone use the Gotoh version and does the arm stay where you leave it? Anyone happen to know if it's possible to swap a Gotoh for an OFR in the SL2H or RR1 without lots of routing?

I replaced the Schaller in my 1991 Custom with a new Gotoh. It went straight in and plays beautifully. It is a non recessed model, but I don't think it would make any difference.

i have one and love it. the tremolo arm has a set screw like tonepros bridges that you can control the tension of the arm with. plus i think it sounds better than the OFR as well.

Hmm. Think I'll have to try one out. Just a matter of trying to decide which axe to try it out in.
